Where to buy LEGO bricks
It is easy to visit a mall or toy store, or even an internet outlet to buy a LEGO set in production and still for sale. But sometimes you want just a single brick or special part that got lost, or maybe you need to get a vast amount of bricks in a specific colour. It is not possible to buy LEGO parts like that from your local supermarket. You need to know, where and how to get hold of that. This piece of 'intel' helps you. There are several options: BrickLink.com - a virtual mall of thousands of private, usually hobbyists, stores on the internet. LEGOLAND outlets - Most LEGOLAND parks have stores where you can pick any brick you want from a large selection. LEGO Shop at Home - LEGO's own internet store has a large selection of bricks and parts. Other auction sites etc - Many sell their collections through auction sites, like eBay. Pros and cons BrickLink is the place to find almost anything. Even very old LEGO sets, rare collector's items, large supplies of identical parts. Often cheap bulk amounts of parts for large scale builders. A large, friendly community of sellers and buyers. But, the parts you need can be found in many different stores. This means you may have to buy from sellers in different parts of the world. Shipping can be high on international shipments. Sellers know their trade, and bricks are of good quality and carefully handled. LEGOLAND outlets have fewer parts to choose from. Shipping and availability is known, if you know they have the parts you want you can usually get enough. You need to travel to any LEGOLAND to get the parts. This may, or may not, be a problem. Entrance fee to the parks must be paid as well. LEGO Shop at Home is a great, large online store operated by the LEGO company. You can find exclusives which is sets only available there, often this is large Star Wars models, highly detailed train models and more. A selection of parts areavailable from the Pick-a-Brick section. The selection is better than LEGOLAND outlets, but less than BrickLink. Shipping is usually quite fair, and shipping is done locally. eBay and other sites is a place where you can sometimes find collections of interest. Be aware that not everybody knows how to handle LEGO and even mix other clone products (Mega Blocks or similar) into the lot. Good deals can be done, but be careful, and ask questions! |
